Expanding the list of goods sold for foreign currency

The list of goods and services that could be paid for in foreign currency in Belarus was expanded. It lists petroleum products and liquefied gas at petrol stations, tourist, medical and educational services to non-residents of Belarus, sales of new cars.

Comment

The National Bank has motivated this decision by the need to “replenish the Belarusian economy with the currency of the population (including non-residents)”. Previous policy envisaged consistent reduction of the scope of the currency payments inside the country, advocating for de-dollarization of the economy, causing certain inconveniences to foreign partners. However, within the current situation the decision of the National Bank of Belarus is logical and justified.
